Zaward VIVO Direct Heatpipe Touch Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler

Zaward’s newest CPU cooler, the VIVO features something we have never seen before here at Quiet PC, “Direct Heatpipe Touch”. DHT could well become the standard for future high performance CPU coolers because the technology makes perfect sense.

Features

  1. Direct Heatpipe Touch for quicker heat transfer
  2. Three U-shaped heatpipes act as six
  3. Supplied with two 92mm Golf fans
  4. Intel LGA775, AMD 754/939/940 and AM2 compatible
  5. Slim design, should fit virtually all motherboards and cases

Direct Heatpipe Touch

Every CPU cooler manufacturer mentions how efficient their coolers are, especially those manufacturers that use heatpipes to increase performance. Heatpipes are designed to transfer heat from one point to another and to do that as quickly as possible. Zaward have made this heat transfer process even quicker by flattening the heatpipes at the base of the cooler so they directly touch the top of the CPU, hence “Direct Heatpipe Touch”. Due to this feature the heatpipes remove the heat from the CPU quicker because there is no other layer between the CPU and the heatpipes to effect the heat transfer.

U-Shaped Heatpipes

Due to the fact that the heatpipes are U-shaped the heat from the CPU is transferred up both sides of the heatpipes which doubles the efficiency of the heatpipes, giving you six effective heatpipes from just three!

Heatsink and Fans

Under the white plastic ducting lies around 40 aluminium fins. These fins attach directly to the heatpipes which is where the heat is dissipated by the help of the two Zaward 92mm Golf fans, click here for information about the technology behind the fans.

Installation

Installing the VIVO is very simple. The VIVO uses two different mounting brackets, one is for Intel’s LGA775 and the other is for the AMD’s 754/939/940 or AM2 socket. Out of the box the VIVO is ready to be installed on Intel’s LGA775 socket but if you intend to use it for an AMD socket the Intel bracket needs to be removed.

To securely attach the heatsink to any CPU the white ducting needs to be removed. Once removed the heatsink is either screwed to a backplate (Intel) or attached to the retention module (AMD). After the heatsink is attached the white ducting is then placed on top of the heatsink and screwed onto the heatsink to secure it. If you intend to use both of the supplied fans with the VIVO then it is recommended you attach the second fan to the white ducting before you place the ducting over the heatsink.

After the heatsink and ducting are in place the final step of the installation is to connect the fans to the motherboard. All that is required are two available 3-pin fan headers, one for each fan. It may sound complicated but it practice the whole installation process is quite simple. Instructions are provided if further clarification is required.

Reviews

  • PC Format

It makes a decent fist of cooling, sitting comfortably in the middle of our temperature table, but it stands out because it’s one of the quieter active coolers here. Verdict: 82/100.

  • TechPowerUp.com

Although this is my first experience with Zaward, I can say I am very impressed with the Vivo. Even though it was based on a smaller 92mm fan, its performance was as good or better than several 120mm fan-based coolers. Add to that the simple installation, low-noise fan and competitive pricing, Zaward easily comes out on top - 9.5/10

Fantastic little cooler to replace stock heatsink

,

Fitted this over a stock Intel 775 heatsink. I’ve got a 10 to 12 degree drop when idling. It’s quieter than the Intel heatsink as well.

The only downside is fitting it, it tends to come apart too easy. Other then that, if you wish to replace the stock heatsink then I recommend this one.

Even better than I thought it would be

,

I needed a quiet cooler to replace the stock Intel fan on my Pentium 4 machine. I wanted a fixed speed cooler that was quiet which is not an easy task. Many coolers are quiet when you run them at low speed but get noisy as they speed up - much like the stock cooler. This thing fits the bill perfectly. It was pretty easy to fit. You need to remove your mobo to fix the backplate but, even with push-pin coolers, I would always remove the mobo anyway so it was no extra hassle.

I installed it with just the one fan (if I was overclocking I’d fit both but I want quiet so I didn’t!) and was amazed. This thing runs amazingly quiet at 2000 rpm. To get the same volume level with the stock cooler I have to run it at 900rpm which makes my system 10 degrees hotter at idle than with the Vivo. I haven’t really pushed the system to the limit but the game I did play, temps reached 52 degrees max and it’s still quiet! This is absolutely what I needed and is strongly recommended.
