With computing power ever on the increase, heat issues can affect laptop computers just as much as conventional desktop machines. Because such high-power components are squeezed inside such a small case, it is inevitable that the heat has to escape somewhere, and invariably manufacturers resort to small, high speed fans to keep their components cool.
Even then, safe cooling is not always assured - especially if the machine is used on soft surfaces such as carpets, duvets or trouser-legs! Anyone who has ever used a laptop literally “on their lap”, will know just how hot these computers can get.

We think every laptop user should have one! They give peace of mind that your laptop will not overheat and crash (or melt!). They improve long-term reliability because the laptop is running cooler. In most cases, they cut down on the noise from your laptop fans, because the fans don’t need to run as fast to maintain a safe temperature. An added benefit is that they raise the rear of your laptop, making it much easier to type on its keyboard without worrying about wrist-strain.
The ZM-NC3000S/U comes with a large 220mm fan which gives excellent airflow to the base of your laptop with minimum noise. The speed of the fan can be adjusted according to how hot your machine is running and how quietly you would like the fan to run. The product comes in a stylish black finish and will accommodate the vast majority of laptops on the market with up to 17 inch screen size.
Because the fan is powered by USB, there are no extra power supplies or wires to worry about, other than one cable (included) which connects to a USB port on your PC or Macintosh. You don’t lose a USB port because the cooler provides not one, but two ports to replace the one it uses on the laptop. And because they are lightweight, the Zalman notebook coolers can easily be transported with your laptop so you can use them anywhere - not just in your office!
Product Differences
The ZM-NC3000S and the ZM-NC3000U are identical except that the U version can provide extra power to its USB ports. This is beneficial only if you intend to connect USB devices to it which require more power than that which is available from a standard USB port. To be able to provide this extra power, the ZM-NC3000U can be optionally connected to a DC adapter (ZM-AD100), available separately.

The Urban Shogun
At the rear of the cooler is a speed dial allowing you to turn the fan speed up or down. However one of the ZM’s best features is that no matter what speed setting it’s put at, it’s always quiet. Even at full power, it’s virtually completely silent and you’re much more likely to hear the sound of your laptop than the actual cooler. Very impressive.

A quality product that does exactly what I expect it to.
I have used other cheaper notebook coolers before and was never particularly happy with them due to instability when typing and the noise. After some research I settled on the NC3000S based on other reviews.
I am delighted with it - even on the highest speed setting it is virtually silent and greatly reduces the laptop cooling fan noise. Before I had this I could not leave the laptop on overnight in my room doing software updates or virus scans since the cooling fan kept spooling up and making too much noise. Now I have rescheduled my housekeeping tasks for 2:15am and I don’t hear them.
Using the notebook for games - in particular Railworks Train Simulator 2012 I was used to the fan screaming away as the system got hotter and hotter but now even after a couple of hours the fan in the laptop is not going very fast and the cooler is still silent.
On the stability front - the unit is rock solid even when I am furiously typing away on the notebook at full speed which is much better than the cheaper products I had previously used.

You can't hear the fan noise!
The fan is extremely quiet! You can’t hear any disturbing fan noise such as the other brand’s notebook coolers. I’m using it with my 16.4” Sony Vaio F Series laptop. It fits perfectly and holds the laptop properly with rubber holders. I don’t have any laptop fan noise problem any more. Thanks Zalman and thanks a lot Quiet PC!

I would recommend it without hesitation to everyone who has cooling problem on a laptop. The Zalman ZM-NC3000U is an excellent cooler. It keeps my laptops (HP Pavilion dv6500 and Toshiba Satellite) at least 24 degrees cooler. The aluminium base is great for heat dissipation. It is also extremely quiet. You can visually see how it works but you can’t hear it. Although the size of it is against its portability, but if the size doesn’t matter than definitely the best choice!
