Scythe Mine Rev-B Quiet Heatpipe CPU Cooler
Scythe’s latest CPU cooler, the Mine (pronounced “Mee-Nay”) consists of three heatpipes in a U shape. This effectively doubles the performance of the heatpipes because the heat is transferred in two directions on one heatpipe. Attached to each set of three heatpipes are 46 Advanced Wave Stack Fins (AWSF). The benefits of AWSF are higher performance and lower noise.
As you can see from the above image the fan is located in a slightly different location compared to some normal heatsinks. Instead of it being installed on the outside of the fins, the fan is sandwiched in-between them. This allows the heatsink dimensions to be more compact and the in/out airflow maintains the performance you would expect from a high end CPU cooler.
The fan supplied with the Min is 100mm, which provides sufficient airflow to the heatsink to keep any CPU currently available nice and cool, even those hot dual core CPUs. And it will do this at an extremely quiet 22 db(A)!
If for some reason you are not happy with the 10cm fan supplied with the Min it is possible to change it to any fan of your choosing, just as long as it is 25mm thick. It is even possible to use fans up to 140mm!
The Mine is an extremely easy cooler to fit. This is because it adopts Scythe patent pending Versatile Tool-free Multiplatform System (VTMS). The VTMS allows the user to mounting the cooler to any Intel socket 478, LGA775 and any AMD socket AM2, 754, 939 or 940 motherboard without any tools! This obviously makes installation extremely easy.
Fan Control
If you prefer to have control over the fan speed then we would recommend that you use a Zalman FANMATE 2 or similar fan controller, which will allow you to set your own balance between cooling and noise. Many processors simply won’t need the fan running at full speed in order to keep them cool.
Compatibility
This cooler is compatible with all known motherboards except the ASUS P5AD2.

Reviews
Silent PC Review
The Mine deserves accolades for including the quietest stock fan we’ve ever heard on a heatsink. It is worth the money for this reason alone. It’s an easy recommendation.

… the Scythe Miné managed to take a further 5° off this temperature (50°C) with the same near-silence. At idle, the temperature fell to 29°, making it the best choice for LGA775 CPUs as well as AM2.
Hexus.net
While Scythe might not class the Miné as a high-performance cooler, we most certainly do. It delivers exceptional performance and at a price – well under £30 – that even deep-pocketed enthusiasts won’t begrudge.
