Jonsbo UMX5 Zone Midi Tower Aluminium Cases

Jonsbo’s UMX5 offers everything you’d expect from a high end chassis, excellent stability, aluminium exterior, RGB lighting and extensive cooling options.

Jonsbo UMX5

Jonsbo’s UMX5 is currently their flagship model of their UMX series of chassis. This spacious Midi Tower relies on the proven combination of a steel chassis for maximum stability and an extravagantly designed aluminium exterior. The noble exterior made of high-quality aluminium attracts attention. The raised fins made of 5.5 mm thick aluminium are polished while the indentations are dulled using a sandblasting process. The individual grooves stand out clearly - this not only looks extremely elegant, it also adds to the design and gives the UMX5 superior stability.

Front panel connections

The front panel houses two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0, audio connections, power button and a RGB LED button. Both sides of the chassis are made of 5mm thick tempered glass and embedded in a frame of painted steel. For optimal airflow this frame is meshed to aid in improving the chassis airflow.

Boldly designed case foot

A design highlight of the case is undoubtedly the boldly designed case foot. Between the underside of the chassis and the foot is a 35mm high recess. An advantage of this ventilation chamber is to allow any fans installed at the bottom of the chassis to introduce cooler air into the system. Unlike conventional PCs where airflow goes from front to back the UMX5 is better optimised for airflow to go bottom to top.

Built-in RGB LEDs

The UMX5 has two RGB LED strips underneath the bottom of the case, which illuminate the ventilation chamber. The LEDs also illuminate the right side of the chassis in a honeycomb pattern along with the Jonsbo logo. Directly behind the honeycomb pattern is where the power supply and storage drives are located, keeping them out of sight.

The LEDs can be controlled via the RGB button integrated into the front panel. The following modes are available - Colour cycle, with 264 different colours. Static lighting, in red, blue, green, white, yellow, purple, pink, turquoise and orange. Breathing (only red), and finally the LEDs can be completely switched off if required.

Innovative interior design

Like the exterior, the interior of the case is designed in an especially innovative way. The power supply is installed in a specially designed frame behind the front honeycomb pattern which helps to save space. Extensive cable management holes allows a clean and tidy build. The mains power connection can be found at the rear of the case with a corresponding cable for looping through to the power supply pre-installed.

Below the power supply there are four mounting slides for hard disks. These are made of red anodised aluminium and accept both 3.5” and 2.5” drives. The slides are fixed with thumbscrews and can be removed individually. Two additional 2.5” drives can be mounted at the rear of the motherboard tray.

Extensive airflow options

The UMX5 is ideally suited to accommodate a high-end system with powerful hardware. To supply the hardware with sufficient cool air, up to five case fans can be installed. A 120mm fan is already preinstalled on the back of the case, a further two can be installed on the floor and another two at the top of the chassis.

The top and bottom fans are installed onto frames. These frames need to be removed to allow installation. It is possible to instal the fans on the top or bottom of the frame, as shown in the images below that show the fans installed on the bottom frame. The purpose for this is to provide more space in the main motherboard compartment if required.

Thanks to the mesh elements in the surrounding frame, the fans can suck in air from the outside at all times. At the floor there is a generous recesses below the fan mounts, which is equipped with a magnetic dust filter from the outside. This ensures a continuous exchange of air without the user having to worry about dust ingress.

Watercooling options

If you want to equip your system with water cooling, you can also install a 240mm radiator at the case top. The distance to the mainboard is about 65 mm, which allows the installation of thicker radiators. When installing a radiator at the bottom, it is advisable to mind the distance to the mainboard, otherwise it may be possible to collide with an expansion card in the lowest PCI slot.
