## Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Extreme Edition

The Intel Core i7 Extreme processor is both unlocked and overclocked. It’s the first desktop computer chip to feature an eight-core processor and this CPU is already breaking records. Ideal for enthusiasts, gamers and digital content creators, the Core i7 Extreme will allow users to reach new levels of desktop capability.

Eight independent cores of unbelievable power that encourage you to become the digital content creator or gamer you always wanted to be. Need cores to render? Check. Need cores to compile? Check. Need cores to seek and destroy in the latest game? Check. It seems almost unfair to add Intel Hyper Threading Technology for a total of 16 threads at your disposal.

You want burst speed performance for those jobs that require a bit more frequency? Intel Turbo Boost Technology has that covered. But that little voice inside of you is saying you want even more? Let that voice know that the processor is unlocked and is ready for you to tune it to fit your demanding needs. Tune cores, power, memory, or whatever else you need to tune to make your system fit your needs.

Intel Core i7 5930K and 5820K Processors

For more price-conscious customers who don’t need Intel’s most powerful desktop chip, the 5930K and 5280K are worthy of serious consideration. Still easily exceeding the performance of mainstream LGA1150 processors, they both offer six cores and a huge 15MB Level 3 Cache, plus Hyper-Threading which gives 12 threads.

Taking it to the Next Level

Using an LGA2011 processor is a world apart from the more mainstream LGA1155 platform. Using a motherboard with the latest Intel X99 chipset will allow the use of DDR4 memory and an increased number of PCI Express Lanes, giving more performance than you had ever imagined possible.

Review

  • Tom’s Hardware

For less than £50 more than a Core i7-4790K, you get six cores, 15 MB of shared L3 cache, a bit of insulation against the future, four channels of DDR4, and ample PCIe. This time around, I’m going with the Core i7-5820K as my smart choice.
