Scythe Ashura High Performance Quiet CPU Cooler
World class performance, wide compatibility with tall RAM modules and a new easy-to-fit secure mounting system makes the Ashura the perfect must have CPU cooler for a huge range of systems.
Features
- Six 6mm Heat pipes in variant structure for maximum heat dissipation
- New simplified mounting system ensures the cooler is securely and firmly attached to the motherboard
- A second 140 mm PWM fan may be added for a push-pull configuration (clips included)
- Narrow fin depth ensures greater compatibility with memory modules fitted with large heatsinks.
- Ideal for quiet operation or for over-clocking enthusiasts
- Compatible with Intel LGA775, 2011, 1155, 1156, 1366 and AMD Am2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2
- Supplied with thermal paste
Scythe engineers took a totally new direction when designing the brand-new Ashura CPU cooler. Their main objective: Compact dimensions without sacrificing cooling efficiency. The Ashura is the result and it mixes both form and functionality in equal measure with a touch of elegance.
Dual-Fan Efficiency
When developing the Ashura, it was decided that it should be possible to add a second fan, so the required spare pair of fan clips is therefore part of the accessory list. With a second fan, cooling performance can be further enhanced by applying the push & pull principle. The additional Scythe GlideStream 140mm PWM fan can be purchased separately.

The supplied Scythe GlideStream 140 series fan combines the proven “small hub and wide blade” design concept with neat, new ideas such as Grooved fan blades contributing to even less air resistance as well as mounting holes fitted with rubber inlays to minimise unpleasant vibration noise. Another unique characteristic is the 120 mm mounting hole position.
Compact Size
Due to its narrow deep fin structure design, the Ashura is ideal for PCs with memory modules fitted with large heatsinks. This means that the cooler is set back on the processor socket leaving a wider gap between the cooler and the first memory module.
Newly Developed Mounting System
Another new feature that can be seen is the Ashura’s new mounting system. Building on Scythe’s experience of CPU cooler mounting systems, the Ashura mounting was designed with the keywords “simplicity” and “reliability” in mind. The installation procedure has been simplified and improved. The new mounting system ensures that the cooler is securely and firmly attached to the motherboard making it prefect for standard users and system builders alike.

The Ashura is a fine addition to Scythe’s slowly growing stable of modern CPU coolers. The Glide Stream 140 fan isn’t an acoustical marvel like our Noctua NF-P14 reference fan, but it sounds pretty darn good and much better than almost any other out-of-the-box third party cooling solution on the market. The mounting system is also excellent, using the same basic style innovated by Prolimatech and Noctua that is now found on most high-end heatsinks. Compared to most other big towers being sold today, the Ashura has one other minor advantage. Its off-center design keeps it well away from the memory slots, allowing easy access and not interfering with DIMMs encumbered with large heatspreaders.

It’s cheaper than the Noctua NH-U12S, Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 and the Corsair H55 yet performs better than them all. It also matches the performance, more or less, of the Noctua NH-U14S which costs about £61.99… It has great acoustic performance too.

For performance, as shown above, the Ashura scores well. Temperature wise it competes nicely with larger coolers and noise levels are kept to a minimum thanks to a high quality fan. Overall an impressive cooler for those looking to air cool a mainstream/high end CPU with minimal noise.
