The Smart Damper features both gel vibration dampening on the HDD screws attached directly to the HDD itself (see diagram below), and a screw-suspension architecture on the mount framework itself. The gel mounts are incredibly soft and “squidgy” and give the maximum possible cushioning effect to the attached hard drive. This greatly reduces the “clicking” noise produced by the movement of the hard drive head servo and also low-frequency rumble from the main spindle bearing.

In addition, airflow around the drive is greatly improved allowing lower running temperatures - this is because of the extra space given to the drive by mounting it in a 5.25” bay rather than a conventional 3.5” bay. In addition, since hard drives are very sensitive to physical shock, it provides great peace of mind if you ever move or transport your PC, because the hard drive will benefit from the cushioning effect of being mounted on very soft gel mounts.
