Zalman VNF100 Fanless Heatpipe VGA Cooler Ultra

Zalman newest fanless VGA cooler, the VNF100 is an improvement on the ZM80D-HP, which has been around for many years. As well as an improvement in performance, installation is far easier.

The way the cooler works is very simple. Three heatpipes transfer the heat from the GPU to at back of the graphics card where blue anodised aluminium fins dissipate the heat naturally. The aluminium fins are only 0.4mm wide, this makes the cooler lighter, than some alternatives which in turn puts less stress on the graphics card.

As mentioned before installation is very easy. Once the old cooler has been removed from the graphics card the provided instructions will guide you through the installation process.

Compatibility

The VNF100 is compatible with a vast array of graphics cards from nVidia and ATI. The following is a list of incompatible graphics cards:- nVidia - 6600 AGP, 7300 AGP, 7600 AGP, 7950GX2, 7900 GTO and GTX, 7800 GS and GTX and 8800 series. ATI - X700Pro, X850 series, X1900 series, X1950 series.

Say no to noise!

It is a very good replacement to my noisy cooling fan. GeForce 9400GT runs at a temperature of about 45C. Great in my case as I do not play games and do not run resource intensive applications.

This was just what I needed to replace the existing heatsink on my graphics card. The main heatsink is on the back of the card so it does not block adjacent PCI slots. Really easy to install, although I would recommend getting some additional thermal paste, and I also got the Arcticlean cleaner which helped.

The only issue was that I had to cut away a couple of the fins on the front heatsink as there were components on my card that prevented it from being mounted. Very easy to do with a hacksaw and only took a couple of additional minutes. My graphics card idle temp has dropped from 87 to 55 degrees! This is partly due to the previously heatsink being rubbish, but I was very impressed all the same!

Bought this to replace the really noisy fan on my Nvidia 8500 GT and it has done that very well. On average the card is running 4 or 5[deg]C cooler that with the fan. Fitting was fairly easy if you read the instructions first and follow them. The only problem is that now I have got rid of the graphics card fan noise I can now hear the PSU or CPU fan and I am now going to have to do something about them!! Also delivery was really quick, ordered Wednesday afternoon arrived Friday morning.
